JAGUAR E -TYPE S1 3.8 FHC - COUPE MANUAL WITH MOSS G/BOX THE E TYPE JAGUAR S1 3.8 FHC WAS THE MOST ADVANCED SPORTS CAR IN THE WORLD WHEN FIRST LAUNCHED IN 1961 AND WAS AT THE TIME TO BE CONSIDERED AND STILL IS BY MANY TO BE THE PERFECT DESIGN FOR A FASTBACK SPORTS COUPE, WHICH JAGUAR CARS VIRTUALLY PIONEERED. JAGUAR CARS HAD DELEVLOPED AND DESIGNED A TWO SEATER SPORT CAR WHICH AS A GRAND TOURER WAS FAST, COMFORTABLE AND WITH BREATH TAKING PERFORMANCE A TOP SPEED OF 150.4 MPH AND 0-60MPH IN 6.9 Seconds. WHILST IT WAS NEVER DISCUSSED OR STATED BY JAGUAR CARS THE E TYPE ALSO HAD GREAT FUEL ECONOMY AS REPORTED BY AN E TYPE DRIVER WHO IN 1962 TRAVELLED FROM ENGLAND TO THE SWISS LAKES AND COVERED SOME 1378 MILES ON HIS TRIP AND AVERAGED 21MPG ON HIS RETURN TRIP FROM THE SWISS LAKES THE JAGUAR E TYPE ALSO PROVED TO HAVE A GREAT TURN OF SPEED WHEN DRIVEN HARD BACK TO ENGLAND. REMEMBER THERE WHERE NO THAT SPEED CAMERAS THEN IN 1962 AND AND HE REPORTLY STATED IT HAD TAKEN JUST A LITTLE OVER 12 HOURS FROM THE SWISS LAKES TO CALAIS AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 62MPH WITH JAGUAR CARS CLAIM THAT THE NEW E TYPE WAS CAPABLE OF 150.4MPH WAS ALSO TESTED ON THE RACE TRACK IN 1961 OVER THE 25 LAP GT TROPHY RACE ON THE TWISTING, UNDULATING CIRCUIT AT OULTON PARK WITH GRAMHAM HILL WINNING AGAINST THE FERRARI AND ASTON MARTIN DB4 GT WITH ALL THREE FINISHING IN CLOSE FORMATION THIS DEBUT WIN FOR THE E TYPE REALLY DID PROVE ITS RACING PROWESS |

The E Type S1 Experience Starts when you sit in the leather drivers seat running your hand over the wood
bound E Type steering wheel you firstly fully pull out the
choke and turn the key to the ignition position and you pause to hear the
electric fuel pump delivering the petrol to the triple SU caburettors and
you first press the start button the starter motor turns the engine over
with the crankshaft only being half immersed in oil, the camshafts and the
top end of the engine is dry as are the cylinder bores as the engine turns
the whole lubrication system is now starting to
function as the XK engine burst
in to life and as you listen entharalled to the sound
of the XK engine and check your oil pressure gauge you put the manual
choke in one notch giving the very occasional and gentle mild throttle
application to enjoy that fantastic distinctive note of an E Type Jaguar
exhaust.
As You Now Engage Gear You select first gear bearing in mind the clutch plate has
to mesh against the flywheel so give it a couple of seconds to settle
before you release the clutch pedal in a fluent manner and you first pull
away.
On to
the As you change from first
to second aim ing to
keep the engine below 2000 rpm and as you change from second to third
aiming to keep it below 3000rpm before engaging fourth gear at about
2500rpm and you start to put the manual choke into the half way
position.
Now the world famous 6 cylinder XK Jaguar
engine is now starting to warm and reach it normal operating temperature
you can now start increasing the speed and rpm you are starting to feel
and appreciate the potent ional power and excitement of driving a motoring
legendry E Type Jaguar that is now only to willing and eager to be driven
and enjoyed to the full.
